Nepal: Bus mishap kills 33
The bus ended up sliding around 650 feet down a hill.
Gelal added that the bus was packed because of a severe fuel shortage in the country that resulted in limited transportation services, AP reported.
The incident occurred in the Ramche village in Rasuwa district, located about 32 kilometers north of the capital Kathmandu.
“We have sent 35 other people who were wounded to nearby hospitals and we are continuing to search the area”, Gelal said. Police are investigating the accident.
After India tightened fuel supply to the earthquake-ravaged Nepal citing security concerns due to protests by Madhesi people near the border between two countries, Nepalis are now facing tough time in travelling.
The mountainous Asian nation – a place with plenty of narrow, windy roads that give way to cliffs – has seen many deadly bus crashes like this one, a few of them involving vehicles teeming with people. More fatalities were expected.
The ill-fated passenger bus with registration number Na 3 Kha met with an accident at Ramche-4 of Rasuwa district.
And in October 2011, at least 40 people died when a bus plunged into an eastern Nepalese river, Kathmandu-based police spokesman Binod Singh said.
