Willian free kick gives Chelsea nervy win over Dynamo
Jose Mourinho described the backing he received from Chelsea fans as “amazing” after the Champions League win against Dynamo Kiev.
Mourinho’s future at Stamford Bridge has been cast into doubt after only three wins in their opening 11 Premier League matches has seen them sink to 15th in the table. Today they tried to say “we want you here” and probably they want also to say to all of you “let him work, we want him, let him work”.
It was Mourinho’s first win since mid-October, and comes at a time when pundits, papers and a tiny minority of fans had been asking for a change of manager.
“I think it is an unbelievable feeling for the club to know the fans are in a good moment and to see the streets full of people celebrating with a buzz”, he said. “The only thing I can say is until my last day in this club – whether it is four years, 10 years, 15 years it doesn’t matter – however long I stay here I will give everything for them”.
“I don’t think it has much effect on the players because the manager tells us what to do and everyone believes in the manager and we are doing what he tells us”, he told Chelsea’s official website. From a metal point of view it was important to have a reaction to a negative moment. While the rest of the Chelsea team have chose to go missing for nearly all of the season, the Brazilian has tried his best to carry Chelsea over the line as he keeps on scoring important goals for the London club.
“They scored the goal but we fought until the end and I scored the second goal, it was very good for us”. When the hard moment arrives, face the hard moment, don’t crumble.
Dynamo manager Sergei Rebrov refused to give up hope of overhauling Chelsea’s two-point lead over them in the race to reach the last 16. “We are going there to win the game”. He said that the fans had not failed to recognise what he has done for the club and that he had brought good memories to them.
Mendes continued: “At FC Porto he won the Europa League, the league, the Champions League”.
The Kiev side were more dynamic after the interval and Dragović made amends for his first-half mistake by taking advantage of Chelsea’s weak defence; he equalised for Dynamo in the 77th minute.
