Rainbow Six Siege will feature one year of free DLC
Game developer Ubisoft has revealed the details of the microtransaction system of the upcoming “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege” game.
Through a new post in the Ubiblog, Ubisoft confirmed that “Rainbow Six Siege” will receive a total of four DLCs.
Ubisoft outlined its plans for 2016 in a handy infographic on its official blog.
The goal, of course, is to avoid fragmenting the player base, a familiar annoyance in the current age of big multiplayer games.
Renown is a currency earned in-game and used to unlock new content. It will be earned through Situations and Terrorist Hunt games, or competing in Online Multiplayer matches.
Rainbow Six Siege will be actively supported with regular gameplay balancing, tweaks, improvements to features, and detailed patch notes. Renown Boosters can be bought with R6 Credits and a few premium weapon skins. These are cosmetic only and will not affect gameplay balance in any way.
Ubisoft also explained more about Renown and R6 Credits, both are in-game currencies. The 600 R6 Credits Pack, the smallest bundle available to players, will cost $4.99.
The game Rainbow Six Siege will be available on December 1, 2015 on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
So what of the previously announced Rainbow Six Siege Season Pass? Let us know in the comments. Post-launch operators, however, will cost 25,000 Renown each (about 25 hours of gameplay) or 600 R6 Credits ($4.99 USD). Post-launch, a new operator will set you back 25,000 renown, which Ubisoft reckons will take around a mere 25 hours to unlock, which is fine, because our time on this planet is absolutely not precious and I plan on expiring at the achievable age of 142.
Ubisoft is using the dual currency system that many modern titles are offering, making it easy for gamers who are ready to spend money to get new content while also offering a way to simply unlock it by playing the shooter.
As for the 20 operators included at launch, the first one you unlock in each counter-terrorist unit costs 500 Renown, the second 1,000, and so on. Siege will also offer daily challenges that provide you with extra Renown when completed. Tiers 4 and 5 (which represent about a third of the available skins) can only be unlocked with R6 Credits.
And just like the act of saving hostages the key word is “free”, with all post-launch content being created around the idea that it’s not the best move to insert a paywall between players and games that strive for an online presence.
With the only monetary exceptions being aesthetic skins for weapons and other cosmetics. Tier 1 skins can only be unlocked with Renown, while Tiers 2 and 3 can be unlocked with either Renown or R6 Credits.
