No. 1 Ohio State expects best from emotional Minnesota
They seemed to have that problem solved with Barrett behind center, but now they’ll find out whether Jones can be more productive running the offense, particularly in the red zone, when top-ranked Ohio State (8-0, 4-0) takes on Minnesota (4-4, 1-3) in a Big Ten game on Saturday night in Ohio Stadium (8 p.m. ET, ABC).
A TV network has not been determined. That was the message Ohio State coach Urban Meyer sent the Buckeyes during an off week last week and while they practiced for Saturday night’s game against Minnesota. But as recently as three weeks ago, Jones was coming off a career-best performance with 291 passing yards, throwing for a couple of touchdowns and completing 75 percent of his attempts in a comfortable win over Maryland, which only adds to Ohio State’s confidence it can continue to stay on course even without Barrett around during his one-game suspension. Or maybe you just think I’m an idiot. That gives Jones a chance to reboot after an underwhelming start to the season, while Miller, converted from quarterback to wide receiver and H-back after shoulder surgery, could steal a few scenes with the special plays drawn up for him at his old position. Minnesota will go to Ohio State next and try to take down the best team in the land. If a game exists for Miller to showcase his abilities to throw the ball downfield, it could be Saturday’s. Moynihan said he felt his team’s spot was secure despite its early exit from the Big Ten Tournament, but nothing is certain until the 64-team field is revealed on November 9.
Ohio State’s turnovers and bitter, 15-degree weather with snow flurries kept the game closer than it really was. They haven’t been beaten in a regular-season game yet. With a win, Cincinnati will become bowl eligible and remain in the hunt for the AAC East championship.
The flag the Minnesota cheerleaders waved at the Little Brown Jug game against Michigan last weekend had that made-up word on it. It said everything you needed to know about Jerry Kill, the Golden Gophers coach who resigned because of recurring epileptic seizures, and the place he had in his players’ hearts. Jones picked him up from custody, and Meyer suspended his quarterback for one game.
“We know what’s coming down the pike”, Meyer said.
A season ticket in 2016 is set to cost $614, while this season’s Buckeyes-Wolverines game in Ann Arbor are selling for no less than $196 online.
This week has finally allowed us to fully embrace what makes college football so much fun: arguing in the middle of the season about an arbitrary poll.
Minnesota still had first-and-goal with 19 seconds left and at the very least could have kicked a game-tying field goal. An opening touchdown would not only ease those concerns, but would stop ‘Cardale Jones can’t lead the offense!’ takes from raining down from the get go. The Gophers also used the read option successfully, as Leidner ran for 56 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown. Why Ohio State Will Win Minnesota just doesn’t have the firepower.
“No comment”, linebacker Darron Lee said. Ohio State 4. Alabama 5. Last year, the Buckeyes won 31-24 on a bitterly cold day in Minneapolis. “You can tell a big difference in players that can actually play the game versus scheme/system players”. Said coach Kyle Flood: “Three of the top defenses in the country… and we play all three in a row”.
