Spurs 3 – Aston Villa 1
Tottenham Hotspur midfield prodigy, Dele Alli, has expressed his delight after scoring his first goal at the White Hart Lane in a 3-1 thrashing of Aston Villa.
A deflected effort from Harry Kane, who scored the first of his 21 Premier League goals last season against Villa on 2 November, was tipped over by Guzan, while full-back Danny Rose’s clipped shot from the resulting corner narrowly cleared the crossbar.
Mauricio Pochettino looks set to name an unchanged team when Tottenham take on Aston Villa on Monday night.
“I think he has a great future, hopefully he stays with us for a very long time, he is a great player, great guy”.
With a match against Anderlecht in the Europa League on Thursday followed by the North London derby at fierce rivals Arsenal on Sunday, Pochettino’s focus was instantly on his next task. “We know that we need to carry on in the same way and try to win the games in an important week”.
“We feel that when the players improve in their games, this is what makes us proud”.
“It’s true that it’s a tough week ahead but we are ready to play and compete”.
“We need to manage the game better – maybe it’s because we are young”.
With their eighth consecutive Premier League loss, Villa is bottom of the table with four points after 11 games.
“I can remember times as a player when I played badly”, admitted the 54-year-old. “He is still young and I always say young players need to keep their feet on the ground”. We gave away a silly goal at the end of the first half.
And his form ever since has gone from strength-to-strength, prompting praise on Monday night from TV pundits and former Three Lions Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville and Frank Lampard following his performance against Aston Villa.
