Kiko Alonso probable, 4 others questionable for Eagles
Eagles left tackle Jason Peters (back), inside linebacker DeMeco Ryans (hamstring), running back Ryan Mathews (groin) and wide receiver Nelson Agholor (ankle) are all questionable for Sunday night’s game against the Cowboys in Dallas. At least the Cowboys can try to get a few wins and then get Tony Romo back so they can run away with the division. Peters was carted off during the Panthers game after a non-contact injury and was reported to have back spasms.
Peters didn’t practice Tuesday, but that didn’t raise major alarms – most National Football League teams don’t even practice on Tuesday, it’s early in the week, kind of a light workout for the Eagles. Lane Johnson practiced at left tackle in his spot and is presumably going to start there Sunday night, which means Dennis Kelly probably takes over at right tackle. His primary matchup in that spot would be Greg Hardy.
A potentially weakened offensive line against the Cowboys is bad news for the Eagles, and especially quarterback Sam Bradford, who will never be viewed as a mobile quarterback, and struggles – like nearly quarterbacks – when he is playing behind a struggling offensive line.
Johnson said he thinks Kelly, who played right tackle in the preseason, will adjust well. “The challenge is going out there and not getting a whole lot of time to practice it…” I think I fit in good with this offense.
Kelly started seven games at right tackle as a fifth-round rookie in 2012, under Andy Reid.
THIRTY-FIVE times Lane Johnson has lined up for the start of a regular-season game as an Eagle, and 35 times he has lined up at right tackle.
“He’s really good, powerful”. We’ll just kinda play it by ear, see how he feels.
Meanwhile Bradford and the Eagles hope to eliminate the wild inconsistencies plaguing the offense in the first half of the season. The veteran and team leader missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, but returned on a limited basis on Friday.
“We continue cleaning stuff up and working on that”, Barbre said. “I’m just trying to get the hamstring right. Sometimes these things can take two or three, weeks to get right”. According to CSNPhilly.com, Mathews is dealing with a groin injury that might keep him limited like it did against the Carolina Panthers.
