Lingard reveals LVG telling players to ignore frustrated Man Ud fans
While United kept their fifth clean sheet in six games in Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow, Wayne Rooney’s victor was the first goal they had scored in 404 minutes of football.
Rooney’s goal spared van Gaal from the wrath of United’s fans, who aimed a volley of boos in his direction when he replaced Anthony Martial with Marouane Fellaini in the 66th minute.
It also papered over a few cracks United manager van Gaal must hope won’t be re-opened against West Brom at Old Trafford in United’s final Premier League game before the worldwide break.
“Yes I think supporters have to support the players or they make it hard for the players to play at Old Trafford”, he said.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is impressed with the way Jesse Lingard has grabbed his opportunities this season.
“When I started as a 39-year-old coach with Ajax, all the fans were shouting, from the very first day, “Johan Cruyff”, until we won the UEFA Cup and then it was finished”.
“We saw a year ago that Chelsea didn’t score too many goals, but they didn’t concede too many either so that is important when you want to do a great season, you have to give away not too many chances”.
“We are top of the group now, so it’s a big three points”.
Former United winger Andrei Kanchelskis launched a scathing attack earlier this week in which he also suggested Van Gaal was “not for Manchester United”.
Van Gaal also confirmed that he has no fresh injury worries ahead of the Premier League clash against West Bromwich Albion this weekend.
“It’s going to stick with me forever, that one”, the 25-year-old had said.
“Then it’s better to whistle the manager, I can cope with it. I have a lot of experience”. “They should analyse the games as well”.
“Criticism of the fans is never unfair because it is the feeling of the fans”.
Van Gaal has admitted that his side are still a work in progress and that new faces to boost the offensive menace of the team can be expected further down the track.
“We played a complete game. Matteo Darmian is suspended so he can not play and Valencia is injured”.
“I still think we have improved, but we have to wait and see when this process is complete, if we are champions, because that’s our aim”.
