Shooting involving Winnipeg officer sends man to hospital
Police earlier confirmed a man was shot during a large police presence near Lipsett Hall.
A news conference was held at 2:45 p.m. where officers said their focus is to find out what took place and lead up to the incident. The man received emergency first aid on scene and was then rushed to hospital. Police said his condition was unknown at that time.
Police did not say what prompted the chase or why so many cars were involved. In a statement they said their investigation is ongoing and there will be no further details released at this time.
At least a dozen cruiser cars responded to a field near the intersection at around 1:15 p.m. Police say they originally made contact with the man driving a vehicle at around 12:30 p.m. before the shooting occurred.
One witness says he saw puffs of smoke coming from police hiding behind vehicles.
“I can’t tell you how many officers discharged their firearms”.
Michalyshyn said the Independent Investigatoin Unit of Manitoba has been notified, and the investigation continues.
“Based on the information that was presented to us, the appropriate level of resources – police units – were dispatched and involved”.
