McDavid’s injury opens door for Larkin for Calder Trophy

At this moment, Pacific Western Conference members – the Edmonton Oilers (5-5-0) hold the fifth position in their overall conference standings and find themselves in middle ground with five losses and five wins so far in the season. He will be gone for a while, and in the meantime, the Oilers need to make do with the star rookie out.

Notes: Pens forward Pascal Dupuis was taken to the hospital as a precaution prior to the game after experiencing symptoms that were apparently similar to his blood clot history… Oilers winger Jordan Eberle made his season debut after missing the first 13 games of the season with a shoulder injury sustained in a pre-season game on September 29… It was Edmonton’s first game this year without young phenom Connor McDavid, who suffered a broken collar bone in Tuesday’s win against Philadelphia and could be out for up to three months… Also out for Edmonton were Justin Schultz (back), Lauri Korpikoski (head) and Rob Klinkhammer (leg).

Racing down the left wing toward the Flyers’ goal late in the second period, with defenders Brandon Manning and Michael Del Zotto beside him, McDavid appeared to lose the edge on his skate.

The reason this is good is because it’s starting to show that McLellan and the coaching staff are starting to find the defense that they can be successful with.
