4 million TalkTalk customers at risk after “significant and sustained” cyber
TalkTalk has emphasized that it will never send emails asking customers to provide passwords, and that, “We will only ever ask for two digits from it to protect your security”.
Of course, there’s no guarantee that the demand for money that TalkTalk has received comes from the actual hacker.
TalkTalk’s chief executive, Dido Harding, told the BBC yesterday, “Yes, we have been contacted by I don’t know whether it’s an individual or a group purporting to be the hacker”.
Police have launched a criminal investigation, but no arrests have been made.
TalkTalk has been hit with a major cyber attack with previous and existing customers private information feared to have been stolen.
In a statement Saturday, TalkTalk said further investigation of the breach revealed the information hackers could have accessed “would on its own not enable a criminal to take money from your account”.
“We’d like to reassure customers that we take the security of your data very seriously”, says Tristia Harrison, the company’s Consumer Managing Director.
However, those are rather hollow word considering that this is the third time that the company has been breached by hackers in less than a year.
“As a precaution, we are contacting all our customers with information, support and advice around Wednesday’s attack”.
Four million customers have been endangered after TalkTalk was hacked again. You should also keep an eye on your bank account(s) over the next few months. If they had also managed to steal TalkTalk customer data then they are just turning the thumbscrews that little bit tighter…
“And in February TalkTalk customers were warned about scammers who managed to steal thousands of account numbers and names from the company’s computers”.
TalkTalk shares tumbled more than 10 per cent, wiping nearly 300 million pounds from its stock market value, as investors and customers anxious about the financial impact of the cyber-attack.
In an FAQ on its website, it said: “Not all of the data was encrypted”.
