PBS Reveals ‘Sherlock’ Special Premiere Date
At its PBS debut, “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride” will be available online at pbs.org/masterpiece and it will repeat at 10 p.m. January 10.
Regulars Rupert Graves, Una Stubbs, Louise Brealey and Amanda Abbington are all set to return with leads Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, while Notting Hill star Tim McInnerny also makes a brief appearance in the trailer.
Unfortunately, the showrunner said that they will not do a classical take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s masterpiece again. “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride” is a 90-minute “Sherlock” special. This marks the first time the series has premiered on the same day in both countries which should delight viewers who’ve been frustrated by the traditional lag time. You think Moffat and this cast could find the time to crank out a few parallel Sherlock specials, set in both the modern times and Victorian England?
The episode’s producers and actors have teased that the haunting episode will be a “variation on Sherlock that’s more in keeping with the original [Arthur Conan Doyle stories]”.
Sherlock fans, will you see The Abominable Bride in theaters or on TV? “Victorian era gives us a chance to do a creepy one, a scary one”. “We realised that Miss Hudson doesn’t really speak in the stories and Molly doesn’t exist, so we had to tackle that one head on as Sherlock wouldn’t be Sherlock without these characters”. St Paul’s pokes it’s spire through a nicely thick pea-souper and, by the looks of it, there’s a shoot-out on the cobbled streets of the capital too.
It was also announced Saturday that “Sherlock’s” fourth season will begin production in the spring, with creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss now writing the new episodes.
Metro revealed the BBC confirmation tweet of the special “Sherlock” series and it will be a great welcome for 2016.
