Curry scores 53 to lead Warriors past Pelicans
Curry has scored 118 points in his first three games, the most by a player to start the season since Michael Jordan in the 1989-90 season.
Stephen Curry couldn’t get the smile off of his face as he trotted back on defense.
He had just buried a 10-meter rainbow over 208-cm Anthony Davis – a play he later referred to as “a dumb shot that went in”.
Curry playing with an even greater goal and drive is bad news for teams ready to take their best shot at the current MVP and champs. Stephen Curry on the basketball court with the other adults is just not fair, because there’s really no one that can stop this man from doing what he does.
Stephen Curry scored 53 points, taking over the game with a 28-point third quarter, and the unbeaten Golden State Warriors defeated winless New Orleans, 134-120, in the Pelicans’ home opener Saturday night. He also dished off nine assists for the still-undefeated Warriors. “I have big confidence right now”. Curry has played his entire career for Golden State, and may have been one of their best additions ever.
“We’re trying to match basket for basket, and that won’t work out against that team right there”, Gentry said.
“I’m blessed to be healthy”.
If he had played more than 36 minutes, he might have shattered his current game career-high of 54 points.
In the first game of the season, Curry scored 24 points in the first quarter against the Pelicans. The Warriors won at Houston on Friday night and dragged into New Orleans in the wee hours Saturday.
It’s still early, of course, but at worst Curry appears to be picking up where he left off. At best, he has taken his game to an even higher level.
“In that third quarter, I was getting a few good looks”, said Curry, who made 10-of-13 shots in the period. He had five rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes.
Draymond Green added 21 points, Klay Thompson 19 and Harrison Barnes 11 for Golden State, who open a three-game homestand on Monday against Memphis.
The Warriors appear to be on a mission to make a statement to anyone who ignores them as viable championship contenders, and that combined with the Pelicans’ injury setbacks points to a closer game in New Orleans, but ultimately Curry and his compatriots may be too much to overcome. Most of the struggles have come defensively, though the Warriors offense is a well oiled machine that no team can seem to figure out. “We weren’t supposed to do that”.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Mike Conley scored 22 points, including 10 straight in the fourth quarter, and had eight assists to lead Memphis.
But the Pelicans are still missing a pair of ball-handling guards in Norris Cole (ankle) and Tyreke Evans (knee), who could likely miss all of November.
This is the second game in a row that Curry just went bonkers on the Pelicans. Hopefully Harden can get his mojo back and adapt to the new shanges before these losses Rockets’ season becomes in jeopardy. “We don’t think that we have the wrong system”.
Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton said he does not view Pelicans forward Dante Cunningham as a dirty player. Cunningham was involved in the collision that resulted in Bogut’s concussion last Tuesday night. Davis echoed his frustrations on defense, saying “We just got to play with more effort”.
