Exasperated British tourists who have waited for hours at the Sharm El-Sheikh airport heckled UK Ambassador John Casson after reports of more flight delays and cancellations.

Thomson was originally scheduled to operate nine flights, with Monarch, Thomas Cook and Easyjet also hit by cancellations.
The United Kingdom and Ireland grounded flights to Sharm el-Sheikh on Wednesday, and evacuation of stranded tourists has proved hard.

Britain has sent a security team to the Sharm el-Sheikh airport to determine what changes are needed to make travel there safe, but Egypt which stands to lose millions of dollars from its vital tourism industry maintains there is nothing wrong with the facility, which each year welcomes thousands of vacationers to the resort beside the crystal-clear Red Sea.

“Maybe it’s a lithium battery, maybe it’s an explosion, maybe it’s… a mechanical issue”, he said the possible cause of the crash.
Thomson said the incident was not a cause for concern, while the DfT said the flight was not the victim of a terrorist attack, adding that the incident was probably connected to routine exercises being carried out by the Egyptian military.
