Arsene Wenger wary of confirming Gunners’ title credentials until
Arsenal have been drifting in the match odds following their midweek defeat to Bayern Munich, a fact that’s unsurprising given the number of first choice players that are unavailable to Arsene Wenger for their meeting with Tottenham on Sunday.
After 11 seasons with Chelsea following his arrival from French side Rennes in July 2004, Cech now has 172 top-flight clean sheets and Wenger backed him to continue for another five years at the top level.
Mesut Ozil has revealed that his excellent form this season for the Gunners is down to a full pre-season, and the German is feeling incredibly fit.
With a bunch of first team players out of the squad, Wenger admits he is nervous about releasing a few of his players for global duty after the Tottenham game, particularly Koscielny. Spurs are on a high, their premier goalscorer Harry Kane is back among the goals, they have lesser injury problems to contend with than Arsenal and they head into the match on the back of no long trip into the European mainland.
Tottenham do also have a much healthier squad than Arsenal, with only Nacer Chadli and Nabil Bentaleb likely to be unavailable.
“I didn’t know, I read it in the papers [last year]”, Wenger told reporters.
Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has insisted that the team need to show composure and keep their calm during tomorrow’s north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Despite readying himself for a tough game, Kane also says Spurs are after all three points at the home of their big rivals. “At the moment, things are going really well”. When he doesn’t score, Spurs could only muster two goals twice and neither of those games resulted in wins.
Other than the opening weekend of the league season in which he conceded two soft West Ham goals, Cech has enjoyed a sound start to his Arsenal career having moved across London from Chelsea during the summer. For me, it’s very interesting. I give Koscielny 80 per cent chance [to play Spurs].
Arsenal are rooted bottom of the table with 3 points earned after beating Bayern 2-0 at home a fortnight ago, while Dinamo third with same points as Arsenal but a superior goal difference. And the starlet has said on the loan move: “I feel settled, especially with the games at the beginning”.
“I believe it is an advantage to be top because it strengthens your belief that you can go all the way”.
