NASCAR Sprint Cup race today Goodys 500 time TV channel live stream
“Wish we were out there celebrating or having a shot for the win like we did before we got wrecked, so a disappointing day”.
Elephants have nothing on race vehicle drivers.
Gordon won Sunday’s Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500, a Sprint Cup Series event at Martinsville Speedway. Joey Logano isn’t concerning himself with the potential for payback in the next three races of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.
There had been early concerns about the weather, with rain in the morning leaving the Air Titans busy drying off the half-mile track in time for the scheduled start of the race. Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. are tied for second place in the standings, two points ahead of Harvick. Where do you think Brain France got the idea to prohibit racing back to the flag when caution flies or that races should not end under yellow?
It was a good day for Team Chevy, with McMurray finishing second and fellow Chevy driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. taking fourth. He said the fact the Logano crash on Sunday was not an incident between two drivers hotly contesting the lead made the circumstances unique and different from NASCAR’s philosophy of “Boys have at it”.
Logano turned a lap at 98.548 in Friday qualifying to earn the top starting spot. Kenseth’s auto was beaten up after contact with Brad Keselowski, Logano’s teammate, so he chose to exact his revenge on Logano when Logano lapped him.
Logano, who led 207 laps on the afternoon, certainly had one of the cars to beat before Kenseth crashed him out of the lead. Did I just see that?’ “I just didn’t have any steering wheel left”.
“I got clipped by everybody and it was just collateral damage off turn two”, was Kurt Busch’s view of the incident. We’ll go to Texas and try to win. “There’s really no in between with Matt. Racing around him for a long time, you kind of know where you sit with him”. “We put in a solid year and this is a fantastic team, this #41 team”.
The 44-year-old driver, who is retiring at the end of the season, collected his first victory of 2015 in south western Virginia. And that’s why he pushed Logano into the wall??.
Logano’s No. 22 Ford is the best auto in the entire circuit, and after getting smashed by Kenseth, Logano now stands 28 points below the cut line and must win at either Texas or Phoenix.
“It was definitely my fault”, he said. “I can’t wait to get to work on that”. “I quit once in my life and I’ll never quit again”.
“Well, like I said a few days you get put in spots you don’t want to be in for sure”, Kenseth said. “It’s just really, really tough to get a read for what you’re going to have come race time, but it’s still fun to be fast”. That’s what happened there.
“Here it was just a complete coward move, especially for a championship race auto driver and race team”, he added. Here, he was a complete coward….
Alright, I can honestly say this week’s piece is going to have a lot of emotion, because quite frankly, there was a lot of it on Sunday. “It’s a chicken move to take out the leader when your race is done”. He entered the race with four top-five finishes, the fewest he’s had in any season in his career. Gordon came to pit road for tires and restarted third behind AJ Allmendinger and Denny Hamlin with 30 laps to go. It is the ninth win for Gordon at Martinsville, third among all NASCAR drivers.
Over the last dozen years NASCAR has enacted various procedural changes including double-file restarts, green-white-checkered overtime finishes and the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship format created to provide additional elements of excitement.
In an atmosphere Gordon described as “surreal”, he was greeted in Victory Lane by friends and rivals, loudly cheered by the thousands of race fans who stayed to watch him bask in his moment of victory.
“What an incredible battle that was”.
“It’s definitely a zone”, Gordon said. I don’t think this opportunity would present itself the next couple of weeks. “He raced me hard and clean there”.
Victory was far from secure, though, as McMurray closed in at a rapid rate of knots – with a two-lap shootout guaranteed when a late caution was thrown.
