Busta Rhymes Pleads Guilty in Gym Protein Shake Incident
Busta Rhymes pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment in court Friday, reaching a deal to reduce his felony assault charge.
Music veteran Busta Rhymes can breathe a sigh of relief after having a publicized summer arrest case’s criminal charges dropped this week. The rapper, whose real name is Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., was arrested and charged with assault in August.
Reuters reported that the New York County District Attorney’s Office reduced the charge after further investigation and based on the limited nature of the worker’s injury. The prosecutors later agreed to let Mr. Smith plead guilty to harassment, which is a violation, on the condition he attend anger management classes. After the rapper wasn’t allowed to bring in a videographer to tape his workouts, Rhymes returned the following day and once again got into a heated disagreement with the employee. The Brooklyn-born performer and the worker had been involved in an argument that escalated, according to the New York Police Department.
After one objected to the unnecessary contact, the guard called her a “silly ho”. Then Rhymes asked the other journalist, “You that aggressive with your man?”
Upon leaving the courthouse, Rhymes noticed fans outside, whom he greeted. “The criminal charges, especially charging him with a felony, was a bunch of bull”, Busta’s lawyer Scott Leemon said. “We are glad to put this behind us and move forward”.
