Little Mix – Get Weird – More pop than R&B, tinged with sass, attitude
According to MTV.com, Little Mix, who consists of Perrie, Jade, Leigh-Anne and Jesy, just released the tracklist to their upcoming third album, Get Weird. For their split happened after Little Mix completed their third album. You only have to listen to the Charli XCX-inspired chants on OMG, then go on to listen to Love me or Leave me to see how varied the album really is. “Get “weird” out of your system and come back to us as the global stars we know you can be”. “Things like the way “Black Magic” opens in already breathless manner; the nice retro-sounding touches to “Love Me Like You” which bring to mind classic Shadow Morton productions; and the way that the vocal arrangements to “Grown” and “Hair” pop and crackle like the Pointer Sisters”.
In fact, most of Get Weird is so strong that you’d probably call yourself a “Mixer” like their hardcore fans, if it weren’t for the risk of being confused with a bottle of club soda.
While being much more aufait with the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Editors, British music bible NME also don’t shy away from more mainstream pop and have labelled Little Mix “cooler than you give them credit for”. There aren’t any tracks we could pinpoint as being disappointing on the album, but towards the end of the deluxe edition is does take a step back from the pumped up beat-fuelled tracks.
