Golfers Jump At Chance To Tee Off At San Diego’s Petco Park
Depending on your playing level, golfers can have anything from a 7-iron to a sand wedge in their hand on the course that plays at just over 1,000 yards.
Instead of nine innings of baseball, starting Thursday San Diegans will see nine holes of golf played at Petco Park. Golfers tee off from home plate and wind through other unique locations around the 40,000-seat stadium.
In partnership with Callaway Golf, the San Diego Padres have launched “The Links at Petco Park” which opens on Friday.
“San Diego is a premier golf destination and Callaway is a premier golf brand, so partnering on this event makes flawless sense”, Padres Vice President of Corporate and Event Revenue Jeremy Horowitz said. “I go to Padres games all the time”. More than 1,600 golfers will play during the four-day event, and another 1,000 are on a waiting list.
Callaway’s headquarters is 30 miles south from where the Padres play.
The course will be open from November 6-8, and tee times start at $100 for a twosome and $200 for a foursome.
“It surprised me a little, but I thought it would be popular – that people would dig the novelty of it”, Dee said on Wednesday, as he stood near the tee box for the second hole, which is located on the upper deck in the right-field corner.
Now here’s a look at Petco Park following the transformation. “I’m sure there’s going to be a few people calling Callaway, asking how they did it and what are the logistics of it”. The last tee is situated on the roof of the Western Metal Supply Building.
