2 killed after their pickup hits a vehicle, goes into river
Massachusetts State Police have recovered the bodies of two Rhode Islanders after their truck ended up in the Charles River.
Brian Arcand, 36, of North Smithfield, and Rebecca Smith, 36, of Providence, were pronounced dead at Massachusetts General Hospital after being pulled from the water by rescuers.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a crash between the truck and another vehicle is what caused the truck to go into the river.
The driver of the Acura, a 35-year-old woman from Milton, and her passenger, a 36-year-old woman from New York, were both uninjured in the crash. Neither was injured in the accident, Ryan said.
He declined to provide further details.
The pickup truck went into the river near the Museum of Science.
“All I heard was a horn going off”, said witness Chris Monzert.
Fire officials say the rescue was quick because there were so many witnesses. Arcand and Smith were extricated from the truck and taken to the hospital. Firefighters placed one victim on an inflatable raft.
Leverett Circle was closed for several hours following the crash before being reopened to traffic.
