Remembrance Day Poppy Campaign Officially Underway
The actress, 78, was appearing in support of this year’s campaign, run by the Royal British Legion, and said: “I don’t care as long as I have a poppy in my lapel”.
“I know a lot of people are now anti-military so it is very much appreciated for Barbara Windsor to say this”.
The poppy has become a symbol of remembrance of those who have given their lives fighting for their country.
The flower has sometimes been the flashpoint for controversy, with a few pointing towards incidents involving members the British Armed Forces.
Last year, the town’s appeal raised more than £9,000 and organisers are hoping to beat that total this year.
He said: “I am begged to wear an Aids ribbon, a breast cancer ribbon, a Marie Curie flower…”
“I’m actually about to go do White Oaks Mall and there’s probably about 70 merchants out there that will be displaying the poppy boxes”.
During the poppy campaign, Legion members across Canada volunteer their time to distribute poppies and raise money through donations.
