Maryland Van Crash Kills 4, Injures At Least 11 Others
The fatal accident happened in the Maryland suburb of Hyattsville, where according to ABC News affiliate WJLA-TV, 12 people, seven adults and five children, were injured and transported to an area hospital.
Mark Brady, a Prince George’s County spokesman, said multiple crews were on the scene of an “extremely critical incident”.
The Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department is on scene and said additional rescue squads and EMS units were enroute.
Brady said most of the injuries and fatalities were concentrated in the passenger van. He cautioned that the numbers could change as the investigation continues.
He said a couple of people ran out on the street with kitchen fire extinguishers “to try to get as close as they could, but it was a little too much”.
A witness reportedly told WUSA reporter Garrett Haake that a pickup truck hit a Cadillac, then tried to drive away. “There were a lot of children in the van”.
Montgomery County firefighters are assisting in the response.
