Missouri football players pressure school leaders over race
On Friday, Wolfe met with Butler and other representatives of the Student 1950 Movement – 1950, by the way, was the first time black students were allowed to attend the University of Missouri.
Saturday night, black players on the Missouri football team joined Butler’s fight.
Those gathered late Sunday near Jesse Hall prayed for the hunger-striking student, among other things.
In recent weeks, students have accused Wolfe of an inadequate response to racism.

Missouri last played Thursday night at home, losing to Mississippi State to fall to 4-5 on the season.
Missouri’s next game is against Brigham Young University on November 14.
According to an agenda provided in the statement, part of the meeting will be closed to the public.
“I am asking us to move forward in addressing the racism that exists at our university-and it does exist”, he said.

Wolfe has given no indication he intends to step down.

Protests on campus have been led by a group called ConcernedStudent1950. My administration has been meeting around the clock and has been doing a tremendous amount of reflection on how to address these complex matters. The plan will try to tackle numerous concerns of students at the college.
Wolfe said Sunday the university has begun work on a system-wide diversity and inclusion strategy.
“It is clear to all of us that change is needed, ” he said.
“The majority of items listed on the Concerned Student 1950 List of Demands were already included in the draft of the strategy”, he said.
“The Board of Curators is in place to make informed decisions and govern, and they must be free to do so”, Kinder said.
“I will give you an answer and I’m sure it will be a wrong answer”, he said.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon issued a statement on Sunday in response to the student protests. Graduate student Jonathan L. Butler started the hunger strike last week, demanding Wolfe’s removal. MU football players will apparently stop participating in team activities until university system president Tim Wolfe resigns.
“The Mizzou Family stands as one”, Pinkel said in a tweet. “We are united. We are behind our players” – along with a picture of the entire team standing together in the Tigers’ dining facility.
