N Srinivasan removed as ICC chairman, Shashank Manohar to take over
India’s former BCCI head Srinivasan has been removed from the position of worldwide Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, reported Indian media on Monday. If the BCCI does change the chairperson, the new name will be forwarded to the ICC thus ending Srinivasan’s hold on the board, said sources. The change should be a formality.
In recent times, Srinivasan has lost lot of ground in BCCI after Supreme Court slapped conflict of interest charges on him following the 2013 IPL betting scandal that saw the suspension of Chennai Super Kings.
Shashank Manohar is in line to succeed the Tamil Nadu cricket strongman.
BCCI president Shashank Manohar will put on his practising lawyer’s cap and try to push through all these reforms at its AGM that will affect quite a few past cricketers wearing multiple hats even as they are part of its affiliated units. With his soon-to-be sacking as ICC chairman, Srinivasan now only remains the president of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
It is learnt that the resolution favouring replacing Srinivasan with Manohar was passed at the AGM.
Another proposed clause is that the National Cricket Academy Board shall consist of a chairman, one member of each zone and two retired cricketers with the BCCI secretary as its convener.
The heat on Srinivasan increased after the Lodha committee suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
There is speculation that Manohar himself take up the role on the ICC board with Pawar as the alternate representative. In the senior selection committee, Rajinder Hans has been replaced by Gagan Khoda.
The AGM also removed current Team India’s director Ravi Shastri from the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council on the issues of conflict of interest. Meiyappan has been banned for life from cricket activities.
