Latino Activists To Pay Larry David
The wannabe Republican presidential candidate opened the show with a comedy speech on Saturday, but was disrupted by a man in the audience who shouted, “Racist!”
Trump was loudly and provocatively heckled by actor Larry David, who repeatedly called him a “racist” from offstage.
“What are you doing, Larry?” The group, Deport Racism 2016, publicly offered to give $5000 to anyone willing to call Trump a racist on the air. David yelled at Trump during his monologue.
But his was a stilted and sometimes unfunny performance, suggesting Trump is most at ease when hosting his own, seemingly never-ending TV show, rather than appearing as a guest host on somebody else’s. “NBC is going for the ratings, and so are we”.
“I heard if I yelled that they’d give me $5,000”, David said with a shrug, echoing an offer made by one of the groups protesting Trump’s appearance. Trump was able to make a mockery of his constant live tweeting during events.
Trump hosted SNL back in 2004, but that was when the world knew him as a real-estate executive, not a Republican candidate. Trump responded to say that “as a businessman, I can fully respect that”. According to a Variety analysis, Trump appeared onscreen last night for just 12 minutes, or less than half the time as Amy Schumer when she hosted the show last month.
Saturday Night Live airs Saturdays at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on Global, with Elizabeth Banks and musical guest Disclosure featured in the November 14 edition.
Trump has come under fire for comments he made concerning illegal immigrants.
“It was terrific”, Trump said of the show.
Before the show, Latino activists demonstrated outside NBC’s New York studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Before long a while, NBC dropped the Miss United States of America and Miss Universe events co-claimed by Mr Trump, saying “appreciation and nobility for all individuals” were “foundations of our qualities”.
While many have expressed their opinion on how much of a letdown the episode was, one thing is for sure: Trump seems happy about being the cause of SNL’s ratings spiking up whether for good or bad reason.
“They’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing their problems”, he said.
The demonstrators even had a piñata that looked like Trump’s head.
