West Bank car attack wounds three Israelis, attacker killed
Also on Sunday, six Israelis were wounded in three separate attacks by Palestinians in the West Bank.
The assailant – who was identified by the Palestinian Maan news agency as a 22-year-old Palestinian woman from the Husan village west of Bethlehem – was shot by the security guard and taken to Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem in Jerusalem.
Palestinian TV journalists also said “settlers” disrupted their broadcasts, following which Palestinians clashed with Israeli forces in downtown Hebron, an AFP reporter said.
After midnight on Tuesday, Israeli soldiers raided the Hebron radio station Al-Hurriah and shut it down for broadcasting incitement to violence. Behind the building sits a checkpoint into the H2 area, an area exclusively controlled by the Israeli Army and where five hundred illegal Israeli settlers reside, alongside the native Palestinian population that has, so far, resisted attempts at forcing them out. Hebron is a stronghold of the Islamic militant group Hamas.
Since mid-September, 11 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks, a lot of them stabbings, while 74 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire, including 47 who Israel said were involved in attacks or attempted attacks.
As in the Al Sharawi case, and many others, the circumstances of Ibeidu’s death are disputed.
Issa Amro, a Palestinian human rights defender and a resident of Hebron, says Israel has tightened security measures recently.
“They both apparently knew they were being searched for by Israeli intelligence and realized it would be better to turn themselves in to the Palestinian forces”, Ynet quoted security sources as saying.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 80 Palestinians including, four women and 17 children, have been killed by Israelis since the beginning of October.
However, Zaid said Qawasmi could not have crossed through the checkpoint with a knife. “You can’t pass the checkpoint with a shekel, let alone a knife”.
The woman, dressed in a black abaya and hijab, can be seen talking to the guard who is holding a notepad and pen, before she pulls out a large knife from her bag and lunges towards him.
The Israeli military denied the accusation.
“We’re a group of Jews from the Samaria and Judea communities that decided, in light of the catastrophe around the Rami Levy branches with all the Arabs that work and shop there, that we will stop shopping in Rami Levy”, the group said.
The settler was uninjured and was not arrested. A family member said she was driving her son’s vehicle and was on her way to visit her brother.
RAMALLAH, January 14 (Xinhua) – An official of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said Wednesday that a suit in the United States against the PLO and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is a blackmail policy. The soldier was lightly wounded in the head.
