Girl, 9, dies after pit bull attack in Elmont, Nassau police say

The girl’s mother tried to pull the dog off, but couldn’t save her daughter.
The girl had been visiting the home and playing with two other girls and the dog at the time of the attack, Bitsko said.
It could be the first known fatal attack by a pit bull on Long Island. Two Nassau County police officers ran to the backyard and saw the dog mauling the girl.

The news of this latest pitbull attack comes barely a month after the Inquisitr reported of another vicious attack on October 5.
“We didn’t know how serious it was”, Subkaran said. The television station, citing witnesses, said it “shook her like a rag doll”.
“I’m sorry for what happened to the little girl”, said Carlyle Arnold Sr., father of the dog’s owner.
The pit bull’s owner, 29-year-old Carlyle Arnold, was arrested at the scene on an unrelated charge connected to a violation of an order of protection, according to police. The attack finally stopped when a passing motorist drove his vehicle into the field and scared the dogs away.
The girl’s death at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream at 1:42 p.m. came less than four hours after the pit bull attacked her. “He was very gentle”, said the 53-year-old Jett.
