Van Gaal: Manchester United need a speedy and creative winger
Bastian Schweinsteiger believes patience is the key to Manchester United rediscovering success under Louis van Gaal.
In comments that may have been met with surprise after homegrown winger Jesse Lingard netted his first goal for the club, Van Gaal gave a non-too flattering assessment of his wide men.
“I am always pleased with the crowd and you have to accept fans have their own opinion, but I think they were very influenced by Paul Scholes and all the criticism that the media has written about”. Lukaku equalised two minutes before half-time, rounding Adrian from Gerard Deulofeu’s pass and rolling home his seventh goal in seven games against West Ham.
At the King Power Stadium, Jamie Vardy scored for the ninth league game running as Leicester sank Watford to continue their fine start to the season under manager Claudio Ranieri. This has not gone well with Valdes who chose not to listen to manager Louis Van Gaal after he was told to keep goals for the reserve squad and this has led to numerous problems for him at Old Trafford.
“And I have provided a lot of examples in my managerial career of that”.
Just before the interval United had the first shot on target when Anthony Martial turned smartly on the edge of the box and let fly with an effort that was pushed away by Myhill.
“My chance didn’t come for three months, so I had to be patient”, he said.
In this pursuit of excellence Van Gaal is considering moving in the January transfer window to acquire the pace the squad lack and provide cover for Luke Shaw, who is a long-term absentee with a broken leg.
“It was pure happiness when it went in”. My mum was here, my brother, dad and girlfriend, so they are really proud of me.
He said: “I thought he (Lingard) was one of the better ones”.
“We have to attack better against these defensive organisations but it is the most hard way you can play as a team”, said the Dutchman, whose team are fourth on 24 points.
It could have been a day to forget for Van Gaal had Saido Berahino not wasted a free header less than two minutes after he came off the bench.
By breaking clear of the Albion defence, Martial earned a penalty – and red card for Gareth McCauley – by being sent tumbling, leaving Mata to convert the spot-kick and seal a comfortable victory.
