Patriots RB Dion Lewis out for season with torn ACL
It’s a big hit to the offense, but the Patriots should have no problem replicating his production with a by-committee approach, as New England has great RB depth, sufficient to keep their Super Bowl run afloat. Before his injury, Lewis was third among National Football League running backs in receiving yards.
Lewis left the game after carrying four times for 14 yards and catching four passes for 39 yards.
So when considering how the Patriots move forward with word that Lewis’ season is over because of a torn left ACL, start with White. Running back LeGarrette Blount will likely continue as the team’s lead running back, with Brandon Bolden and James White working behind Blount for change-of-pace duties. With their star Dion Lewis out for the duration, the team is definitely looking into all of their options. Travaris Cadet, who is now unemployed, was with the team in training camp and could fill the Lewis skill set somewhat well. He averaged 3.3 yards after contact. Despite being favored by Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, he’d already fumbled twice and dropped a few passes. Lewis laid there for a bit before walking off the field on his own.
Not surprisingly, news of Dion Lewis being out for the season has taken the internet by storm. And then he pretty much became New England’s starting back.
