A Scarce Donald Trump Brings SNL a Ratings High
Donald Trump‘s hosting stint on “Saturday Night Live” lifted the NBC late-night program to its highest rating since January 7, 2012.
Another highlight of Trump’s monologue included current Trump impersonator Taran Killam and Darrell Hammond, who used to impersonate Trump, joined the real life billionaire on stage.
Inside Larry David won $5,000 by interrupting the show and screaming, “Trump is a racist!” “As a businessman, I can respect that”, Trump responded.
Deport Racism tweeted out that even if it was in a joking manner, they will still be giving David the $5,000 reward.
“I get the best ratings”, he supposedly said before the show.
Trump’s appearance was controversial in part because of inflammatory comments he made in June about Mexicans who have illegally entered the United States.
“Trump probably left SNL with another such victory”.
Back in August, Trump proved as much when he attracted 24 million viewers for the first Republican debate, a Fox record, and roughly a month later when 23 million watchers tuned in to see him in the same role on CNN.
But it was comedian Larry David, who moments earlier had performed his own impersonation of presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders.
Donald Trump’s appearance on Saturday Night Live might not have generated many laughs, but that wasn’t due to a lack of viewership. Likewise, a few jokes were made at the expense of Trump haters, specifically, the Hispanics who protested Trump’s hosting outside of 30 Rock just hours before the show began. In another sketch, his daughter Ivanka Trump posed as a member of his cabinet and said the Washington Monument had been covered in gold-mirrored glass, mocking Trump’s opulent taste. “You’re brilliant, you’re handsome, you’re rich, you have everything going”, Trump said in his opening monologue.
“It’s 2016, and Trump needs to hear that you can’t win the White House without the brown vote”, he concluded. SNL only allowed the host 12 minutes, which is roughly half of the air-time given to other hosts this season.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump guarantees that his big campaign promise will never come true. In fact, a few of the best acting on the show occurs when the cast members impersonate politicians.
