Trump ‘Saturday Night Live’ Appearance Trumps Ratings
“According to NBC, SNL had a whopping 6.6 household rating on Saturday night, easily beating the season’s previous high…In fact, Trump’s overnight rating was 47 percent higher than the Miley/Hillary episode”, Entertainment Weekly wrote.
“It’s Larry David”, Trump, acting exasperated, announced. “Larry David’s “heckling” of Trump last night only encouraged us to offer this bounty up in the future”.
$5,000 was offered to anyone in the audience who would call out Trump as a racist. When Trump asked David why he would yell that, David replied that he would get $5,000.
Of course, because it was scripted, Trump was given an opportunity to respond and play the moment for laughs, saying, “As a business man, I can fully respect that”.
“I want to win Iowa”, he said. “Huge”, Trump might say, who previously hosted the show in 2004.
Viewers quickly took to social media to share their views on Trump’s off-key singing and “dad dancing”.
The next step for Trump’s rivals would be to apply to affiliates – local outlets that carry network programming – for their share, which could be delivered in free late-night advertising, for example.
The show appeared to be revelling in making fun of the reality TV star to his face but the criticism was never that damming as numerous Trump-centric pieces, which have offended so many, seemed to be dismissed with a light chuckle by the SNL writers. “You’re a racist!” David shouted.
Trump, a billionaire real estate developer who has never held elected office, leads the polls for the Republican nomination for the White House.
The presidential candidate on “SNL” brought in an overnight rating of 6.6, the biggest overnight rating for the long-time variety show since 2012. On Saturday, she joined him on the Saturday Night Live set during his much-buzzed about hosting gig. “They were great”, he tweeted, adding, “Very few protesters!”. The Weekend Update segment also referenced protestors’ demands to “dump Trump”.
But NBC, which cut ties to Trump over the summer following his controversial comments about Mexican immigrants, faced protests from Hispanic groups over Trump’s presence on the show.
