Preliminary ratings for Trump on SNL are in
The presidential candidate hosted “Saturday Night Live” this week, turning his controversial appearance into both a punchline and a reality.
SNL cast member Colin Jost told INSIDE EDITION that Trump had no problem poking fun at himself. A few of the protesters said Trump’s statements about immigration and mass deportation are racist and offensive.
Donald Trump hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time this weekend, despite protestors who didn’t want to see the presidential candidate given a platform by the NBC show.
“I heard if I yelled that, they’d give me $5,000”, David replied, shrugging. He wasn’t in the cold open, the monologue was short, and his appearances in Hotline Bling, the live-tweeting sketch, and the family bit with Beck Bennett at the end were brief.
After the show, Eric Trump told INSIDE EDITION his dad was more than up to the challenge. The group Deport Racism had publicly offered $5,000 in cash to anyone who would heckle Trump during his hosting gig, and it seemed even Mr. Trump expected a few hijinks.
Taran Killam, this season’s resident Trump impersonator, said that “the show’s gotten better by about 2 billion percent” now that Trump is on. Poor performance or not, ratings is probably what Trump and “SNL” got.
Trump was still clearly reading from the TelePrompTer as he responded with feigned dismay, “Who the hell was that?” While Trump was talking, a voiced shouted out of camera range, “You’re a racist!“.
The episode seized the highest ratings of the season, according to NBC. “The answer is, I have nothing better to do”.
NBC on Monday filed a notice required by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) saying that Trump had appeared free of charge for 12 minutes and five seconds on Saturday’s program.
All in all, although it was admirable of Donald Trump to prove that he can take a joke, this particular “Saturday Night Live” episode failed to deliver to the hype.
National ratings with the average number of viewers watching the show with Trump and musical guest Sia will be issued on Thursday.
Another sketch joked about Tump’s many feuds. – Trump were to win the presidency, SNL painted a colourful 2018 picture that included peace and a Trump casino in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin crying for being called “loser”, and that Trump getting that long-desired wall between Mexico and the US installed, but on Mexico’s dime.
