Rams reach deal with Welker after Bailey ban
For Bailey, this is his second suspension in as many seasons. That suspension was later reduced to two games after a change in the league’s policy.
Rams WR Stedman Bailey has been seeing lots of action with the 1st-team offense in camp.
Last week, Rams running back Trey Watts was suspended indefinitely for violating the substance abuse policy.
Hakeem Nicks and Vincent Brown also were expected to work out for the Rams on Monday, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, so Welker has competition in his attempt to land a job.
So on Monday, the Rams worked out several players, including Welker, and later in the day the Rams signed Welker, coach Jeff Fisher said. Welker had a rough 2014 in several regards. Head injuries forced the former Broncos receiver to miss two games last season and he was limited to 49 catches for 464 yards and two touchdowns – his worst season since his rookie year in 2005 while with the Dolphins.
Welker had a very successful six-year run with the New England Patriots before signing with the Denver Broncos prior to the 2013 season.
On Sunday, Welker vocalized his frustration at the process of finding a return to the NFL. He has 890 catches for 9,822 yards and 50 touchdowns over his career.
