Buffalo places Percy Harvin on IR, activate Leodis McKelvin
The Bills wide receiver is set to undergo knee surgery this week but plans on returning to the field next season, NBC Sports reported Sunday.
The Bills wide receiver was placed on injured reserve Saturday. The one constant in the past few years is that he hasn’t done anything to live up to the potential that made him the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year in 2009 and, in the early weeks of the 2012 season, an outside-the-box league MVP candidate.
He failed to record a catch in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans, however, and then missed each of the Bills’ past two games. During his career, Harvin has suffered from migraine headaches, a torn labrum in his hip, and, most recently, a nagging knee injury. His last 16-game season was in 2011. Harvin’s final two years of his contract with the Bills is voidable, and he could become a free agent this upcoming spring.
The Bills used Harvin’s roster spot to add cornerback Leodis McKelvin back to the 53-man roster.
Despite the rough practice and ankle soreness, Watkins is calling the problem “a little tweak” and claimed via ESPN, “I’ll definitely be out there (Sunday)”.
After missing back-to-back games, against the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans, with a calf injury and the Bills’ last game, against Jacksonville, with the ankle injury that also sidelined him for half of the previous game, against Cincinnati, Watkins is anxious to return to action. Head coach Rex Ryan said that Watkins will be a game-time decision, but it looks like Buffalo will have their first round draft pick back in the lineup.
