Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney slaps WWE superstar at Raw
Here is what went down as Preston-born Wade Barrett chose to trash talk with Rooney.
Could England’s highest goalscorer and Manchester United talisman Wayne Rooney be eyeing a post-football role in the ring?
After a theatrically heated display, Rooney landed a clean slap on Barrett’s face, sending him crashing to the floor.
Rooney, who has fancied himself as a bit of a boxer, had a bit of “Twitter beef” with the famous Lancastrian wrestler, who is a Preston North End fan.
“I would hate for your little boy to have to watch his own father fail. Because let’s face it, he gets to experience that every time you step on a football pitch”, Barrett said to a chorus of boos.
“How about that @WayneRooney dive vs @PNEFC?”.
As Rooney sat in the front row with his son, Barrett cut a promo on the United captain from the ring.
Rooney, not one to shirk a challenge, rose to his feet before landing a sweet right hook square on Barrett – a former Liverpool university student.
The scripted set-to proved a huge hit with fans, who chanted “Rooney, Rooney” to the United and England skipper. He then added: “Does anyone have Phil Bardsley’s phone number?”
Rather than call Louis Van Gaal to see if he fancied to set-up a tag team and get revenge, Rooney bides his time before delivering a fatal slap.
“He is a fantastic player but the expectation (on him) is much higher than any other player at another club”.
