Hackensack American Legion to host Veterans Day program
After the parade, there will be a ceremony to dedicate PFC John P. Borseti Memorial Square at 242 Pearl St.at 12 p.m. City leaders, veterans, family and other members of the Malden community will gather to honor this veteran who was killed on the battlefield in Korea in 1952.
To close the ceremony, Wilton High School students Jordan Reichgut and Elliot Connors will perform taps on the bugle and the flag will be raised to full staff.
The event is organized by the VFW Post 2115, American Legion Post 50 and VVA Chapter and Indianhead Chapter of the POW-MIA.
The top three winners of the Dr. Charles Koehler Writing Contest will also be in attendance to present their submission of what Veterans Day means to them.
“He’s been working extremely hard on our behalf, which is what he is supposed to be doing as Commander of the American Legion, for all veterans”, said Sons of the America Legion Post #11 Commander Michael Montgomery. The objective is to celebrate and honor our veterans, the legion says this event brings the Yuma community together.
Women’s Auxiliary member Silva Smith said, “The lunch is awesome”.
This is the second year for the American Legion-sponsored event.
At 11 a.m., the service at the Marion Veterans Park at the corner of Delaware Avenue and McKinley Park Boulevard will be held with Marion Veterans organizations participating.
Winco is donating 40 cases of water.
