#HappyChristmasStarbucks: Red Holiday Cups Shrouded In Controversy
A change to Starbucks’ iconic red holiday cups has left a few customers feeling less than cheery.
“I think Starbucks has gotten the message that the Christian majority in this country has awakened and are demanding that our voice be heard”, Feuerstein reportedly wrote. He then asked the audience if we should boycott the famed coffee chain.
“I don’t know why the controversy”, customer Patrick Bartlett said. Contrasting past Christmas cups, such as this one, shows the clear difference from the new simply red cup.
It’s not what the new Starbucks holiday cups say – it’s what they don’t say.
Donald Trump also suggested that if the US “had an honest government, Hillary wouldn’t be allowed to run”.
Starbucks doesn’t hate Christmas or the Baby Jesus, but they do hate offending the sensibilities of their hipster clientele. “That I can tell you”, Trump added. In a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Trump leads the GOP field with 24.8 percentage points.
In response, Starbucks released a statement saying the cups are meant to encourage customers to tell Christmas stories in their own way.
“It’s much larger than just a red cup”.
A few Christians are upset with the cups’ new design, which doesn’t feature reindeer or ornaments, like in years’ past. However, a few social media users defended the coffee company for their cups. The old red cups are gone for a sleek looking red-only cup and now Starbucks is trying to take the “Christ” out of Christmas.
On this movement, a Starbucks spokesperson explained that their core values as a company was to create a culture of belonging, inclusion and diversity.
Tuesday will mark the official launch of the holidays at Starbucks in the United States as their stores nationwide “turn red”.
Many critics – including Christians – have since dismissed his claims as silly, noting that Starbucks sells a Christmas blend of coffee as well as advent calendars.
