Jose Reyes (Rockies SS) Arrested in Hawaii After Allegedly Assaulting
Hawaii News Now reporter Chelsea Davis tweeted out what she says is Reyes’ police mug shot. Security called police, and he was arrested for abuse of a family or household member. Reyes is accused of grabbing his wife, Katherine, by the throat and shoving her into a sliding glass door inside their hotel room.
The news is shocking considering Reyes’ seemingly off-field persona.
Peter Greenberg, Reyes’ agent, declined comment on the arrest until he finds out more information.
“We will process this one consistent with the new policy that we negotiated at the (Major League Baseball Players Association)”, said Manfred, addressing reporters at the General Manager Meetings in Boca Raton.
In July he was traded to the Rockies in a blockbuster deal that sent Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto. Reyes could become the first player to face sanctions under the policy. Worth noting is that Major League Baseball instituted a domestic violence policy earlier this year which gives commissioner Rob Manfred the power to discipline any offender.
During his tenure in Queens, Reyes was a four-time All-Star.
But now here is Reyes, a baseball player, proving that domestic violence allegations are not just a football thing. He was the National League’s stolen base king in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and won a batting title by hitting. The superstar shortstop has previously played for the Mets, Marlins and Blue Jays. As an older shortstop in decline and still due million in salary over the next two seasons, interest in Reyes wasn’t expected to be great.
