Valdes wants Utd stay
Antalyaspor president Gultekin Gencer had claimed 33-year-old Valdes was close to a switch to the Turkish Super Lig club.
Regardless, the player’s Twitter photo shows that he is not losing sleep about his United conundrum.
“Some people from Turkey called me to negotiate Victor’s signing”, Gines Carvajal told Spanish newspaper AS.
Turkish club Antalyaspor said they were in negotiations with the former Barcelona man this week and it was thought that Valdes could bring his six-month stay at the club to an end in search of first team football.
It’s very hard from the outside to know why Manchester United do not think Victor Valdes is at least good enough to be their backup goalkeeper next season but to leave him out of the tour squad is an obvious signal that he is no longer in their plans.
But he was back at Carrington this morning to train and showed no signs of wanting to move on.
Man United acquired Victor Valdes past year on an 18-month contract to serve as the backup to De Gea and played for the Red Devils in two games, getting a clean sheet in his lone start and a substitution for De Gea in a separate appearance. We don’t see any reason for him to leave.
“United are one of the three or four best in the world”.
The news comes after the Premier League side decided that Los Blancos had missed the deadline to make a deal for de Gea happen during this window (via Daily Star).
With David De Gea’s future up in the air and potential targets Petr Cech and Asmir Begovic already moved, Valdes must feel he has a strong chance of being United’s number one this season.
“Victor is keen to fight for a place next season and wants to help the club as much as he can”, Carvajal declared.
