Starc fined for hurling ball at Craig
Mitch Marsh is still trying to work out how to face Mitchell Starc, suggesting there’s little New Zealand can do if the left-armer gets it right in the second Test.
Starc has been involved in such incidents before too, this time he was fined for $7725 and was publicly rebuked by the Australian captain, Steve Smith.
“He’s done it a few times before and I’m going to have a word to him when we get back to the sheds”.
Craig slapped a pair of boundaries then defended the ball back to Starc, who hurled it in the direction of the batsman. “With my height, hopefully, I’ll be able to contribute to the team in that sense and just keep improving”.
“I don’t think he needs to apologise, he just needs to not do it again in the future”. There wasn’t an opportunity for a run-out there and I think it was just a bit of frustration. With Australia cruising towards a 208-run win, it was a completely unnecessary play for Starc to make with the match nowhere near in doubt.
Smith’s approach was different at Lord’s earlier this year, when England’s Ben Stokes was given out obstructing the field in a one-day worldwide.
Compounding Starc’s frustration was that the thrown ball went for four needless overthrows, which did not amuse his skipper Smith.
MacGill said that although Starc should not have thrown the ball, anger is a part of a sport, news.com.au reported.
While laments continue about New Zealand’s tepid bowling attack the Aussies have challenged their quicks to do a better job in Perth.
“So for blokes that don’t get to face him all that often, and don’t get to face blokes that bowl 150km/h and swing it, there’s not really much you can do to prevent that”.
“I’m sure we’ll find out once we have a beer in the changeroom anyway”.
“I wouldn’t say that”, he said.
“The game was played in really good spirits and I’m sure the tests will be as well”.
“Australia’s Mitchell Starc has been fined for breaching Level 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the final day of the first Test between Australia and New Zealand at The Gabba on Monday”, read an ICC statement.
Australia take on New Zealand on Tuesday at WACA for the second Commonwealth Bank test. Australia will hope that Starc can keep his cool in the upcoming matches and refrain himself from being punished or being banned in the middle of the series.
