Canadiens’ Price out another week
Goaltender Price will be out of action for at least another week, Montreal Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said Tuesday.
Mike Condon will get the start in goal against the Penguins, his sixth consecutive start.
Price (lower body) is responding well to treatment and surgery has not been a consideration, though he will not play this week, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports.
The Canadiens (13-2-1) play only twice this week: Wednesday night in Pittsburgh and Saturday at home against Colorado.
As good as Price has been for the Canadiens, he has proven that he is not immune from the injured reserve list after sustaining a lower body injury in a game on October 29 in Alberta against the Edmonton Oilers.
Condon has actually posted slightly better numbers than Price this season. 936 save percentage while Condon is 6-0-1 with a 1.57 GAA and.
The Canadiens are optimistic that last season’s Vezina Trophy victor as the NHL’s top goaltender and Hart Trophy recipient as MVP won’t be out for the long term, however.
On Monday, Price flew to NY for a second opinion from a doctor there.
“He was anxious a bit”, said Therrien. “The good news is it’s the same thing as our doctor (diagnosed) in Montreal”.
“It’s good for him, mentally”.
Desharnais has seven points in the last five games and 14 on the season, second-most on the team. “No matter what happened this season, I was going to keep a good attitude”.
“No one knew about Condo before and everyone knows about him now”, said Pacioretty.
Price was making the afternoon trip on his team’s charter to Pittsburgh with his father, Jerry, and many other dads as part of the Habs’ fathers-and-sons trip.
During the game in western Canada, Montreal had a 3-0 first period lead only to see their opponent come roaring back and win 4-3 in regulation time.
