‘Challenge Accepted’: Trevor Noah Shows Ben Carson Obama Got Scrutinized Too
Republican candidates have spent a great deal of time so far in this election cycle criticizing the media for liberal bias – from critiquing the way debates have been moderated to complaining about being treated “unfairly” by the media – and Carson has been no exception to this trend.
The retired neurosurgeon and Republican presidential contender insisted at a political rally and on three morning news shows that reports about his claims about a violent youth, a Politico report about a scholarship offer to West Point and a story about a Yale class are actually helping his campaign. All said they had no knowledge of the incidents, though noted they could not know what happens behind closed doors.
Carson has said no other candidate has received the level of scrutiny that he has, including Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Carson then denied that his campaign’s statement constituted such an admission, and Politico’s story and headline were changed to reflect that.
There’s another story about Carson sheltering a few white students during a riot at his high school the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. died, which the Wall Street Journal could find no support for.
“They were very impressed with my incredible rise to city executive officer faster than anyone had ever done that before, and said that, you know, ‘Well, we would be able to get you a full scholarship to West Point, ‘” Carson said. “I have not seen that with anyone else”, Dr. Carson said during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press“, in which he said his biography is being picked through because he is a threat to the “secular progressive movement in this country”.
“I have always said that I expect to be vetted, but being vetted and what is going on with me – “You said this 30 years ago, you said this 20 years ago, this didn’t exist” … I don’t really know”, Trump said on CNN’s “State of the Union”. This one seems similar to something that really did happen, although the detail about a professor rewarding Carson for his honesty is hard to square with the fact that the make-up exam was a prank.
Trump also rejected Carson’s theory the Egyptian pyramids were built to hold grain.
“My brother’s not interested in talking to the media”, Carson said.
After sticking to his story that he once attempted to stab a “close relative” of his with a camping knife – and was stopped due to the stabee’s belt buckle – there have apparently been several people who say the opposite of Carson. “My job is to call you out when you’re unfair, and I’m going to continue to do that”, he said. But whatever you do, stop playing the victim because real leaders-strong leaders-don’t do that. If you told a fib, it means you are imperfect like the rest of us. Ted Cruz of Texas, the more they like them.
