Family Reveals YouTube Star’s Death Due to Undetected Heart Condition
Caleb Logan Bratayley, watched by millions on YouTube during his life and livestreamed by his family after his death, mysteriously died last month at the age of 13. News confirms. Caleb, who is part of the YouTube-famous Bratayley family passed away in early October at just 13 years old.
TMZ describes hypertrophic cardiomyopathy as a rare condition, but according to the American Heart Association, it’s “very common”, affecting 1 in 500 people. According to their doctors, there was “nothing we could have done differently”.
“The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable”, Katie wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your kindness and support continues to help our family”. It’s typically considered an inherited condition, since it’s caused by gene mutations in the heart muscle proteins.
Medical experts tell TMZ that even if Caleb’s family had been made aware of his condition, there is likely nothing they could have done to prevent his passing.
At the time of his death, his family said in a statement that he had died from an “undetected medical condition”. “We miss our baked potato everyday”, the family concluded the post, along with the hashtags “#calebratelife” and “#celebratelife”.
After learning of the heart condition, Caleb’s sisters were checked for the defect, bu are fine, their mother said.
