Don’t worry, ‘Muggle’ (and Dumbledore!) will be used in ‘Fantastic Beasts’

(Wait, is that even the right plural tense?) The Salem witch trials were a majorly devastating part of wizarding history, and now there’s a new group for our heroes to contend with-the New Salem Philanthropic Society, who are attempting to expose all wizards on USA soil. It is set 70 years before Harry Potter reads his book in Hogwarts and will also chronicle Newt’s adventures in NY, where he travels to discover and document more magical creatures.

In another EW article about “surprising things” the magazine learned on the set of Fantastic Beasts, EW reports that the wizarding world in the U.S.is more underground because of wizards’ fear of persecution by Muggles. What Rowling brought to the table was a whole new installment set earlier in the 20th century and in the same world as the Potter saga.

In related news, the print version of Entertainment Weekly’s Fantastic Beasts cover story has revealed that Albus Dumbledore will be referenced at least once in the first movie. Jacob, a No-Maj (the American term for Muggle) will be the “Harry Potter” franchise’s first non-magic main character. According to director David Yates, the film will be “a wee bit more grown-up” than the Potter films, of which he directed the final four.

At this point, all the official images and descriptions are missing one key element for a movie called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: the actual beasts. The other two installments haven’t recieved solid release dates yet, but would presumably follow in 2018 and 2020.
