Caitlyn Jenner’s Glamour Women Of The Year Awards speech will inspire you
“I was getting destroyed by the tabloids walking through the grocery line looking at the headlines, and so were my children”, she revealed. “What can I do?'” I had a lot of conversations with God.
And to Glamour magazine, I gotta tell you a story quickly.
Jenner, one of a group of honorees that included actress Reese Witherspoon, ballerina Misty Copeland, designer Victoria Beckham, the victorious USA women’s soccer team, and a group of women from Charleston, South Carolina, who suffered great loss in the June church shooting there, also said she believes she was put on Earth to tell her story and perhaps make a difference in the world. Not only is he the most incredible father, but he is supportive and someone who loves and inspires me every single day.
Caitlyn picked up the Transgender Champion award, and while she wowed in a floor length blue gown at the ceremony, Kylie covered up in a huge baggy denim jacket, admitting she has suffered “major wardrobe malfunctions” before arriving.
Jenner explains that one of the goals of her transition has been to push past her own confusion and to live her life happily as her most authentic self.
Jenner, 66, was recognised by the magazine for her advocacy work in the LGBT community. Because for so many years I lost my enthusiasm for life, literally staying in my house for nearly six years. “But I just couldn’t play that game any longer”.
During her acceptance speech, the former track and field star also acknowledged the fantastic platform she has to change the hearts and minds of those who don’t fully understand the trans struggle for equal rights. Witherspoon encouraged her audience to direct this very question not toward men, but toward themselves.
“But like Elle Woods, I do not like to be underestimated”, she continued. And not one of them has abandoned me; they’ve all been support of me. I flew in, maybe a couple months ago, just to have a last hoorah of all the food that I’m not going to be able to have or a while. “Finally, last week I got my driver’s license and gender marker F. It’s always the little things in life”, she said. “And I like being myself”. Now able to fly with proper identification, Jenner shared an anecdote of sitting proudly on the plane, leafing through Glamour magazine without the pressure to hide what she was reading.
