SA man killed in Jordan identified as Conrad Whitehorn
A police officer is reported to have opened fire on foreign trainers, killing the South African, two Americans and a Jordanian before he was gunned down by security forces. Officials say two American instructors killed during a shooting spree at a police training center in Jordan were both from Florida. Two Jordanians were critically wounded and later died.
“We can’t really say anything other than how sorry we are”, he said. Seven people were also wounded, including two other Americans. He is survived by his wife, Tamara, and children Trey, Bevin and Breana.
Motives behind Monday’s shooting remained unclear Tuesday.
Clark said he and the league will “do whatever we can to meet the family’s needs”. In a brief interview Tuesday, he said the family was just trying to hold it together.
The company identified the South African killed in the shooting as Conrad Vaughn Whitehorn, 37, of Johannesburg, who previously had worked as a bodyguard and driver before joining DynCorp.
A former Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Deputy was killed Monday during an early morning shooting overseas in Jordan, according to authorities.
In 2009, there were more than 240,000 American contractors working with the United States military in Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. Obama also said the attacker was wearing a military uniform.
United States officials tell media outlets, that the shooter was a disgruntled employee who had recently been fired.
“He will be sorely missed”, said Charles Clark, president of the North Tampa Athletic Association, who coached Creach’s son, Jackson, in baseball.
An United States official said the two Americans were working for the U.S. State Department’s worldwide Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Bureau training Palestinian security forces. “We’re supporting our team members and their families and working closely with both the United States and Jordanian governments in taking care of our injured and deceased personnel”.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the the two contractors killed by the gunman worked for DynCorp worldwide, which conducts global security training, under an United States program.
Creach worked as a law enforcement instructor for DECO Inc., a privately held company that performs a range of law enforcement and security work.
