Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy suggests he could quit club in January
The Telegraph quote Mathieu Debuchy as considering his future, following the loss of his first-team spot to impressive young defender Hector Bellerin.
When asked about his lack of opportunities, Debuchy told Canal+: “I am dealing with it. I am trying to stay strong. I’m trying to stay concentrated until December, then after that we’ll see”.
The 30-year-old made his second start of the week in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Tottenham having returned to the side for the 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
Bellerin is expected to return after the worldwide break, which suggests Debuchy will be dropped again, with Deschamps’ comments from last week hitting home.
Ahead of next summer’s European Championship, the France worldwide has not ruled out moving in January in a bid to ensure he is first choice at global level for a tournament that his country is hosting. He has a decision to make in December or January. “He hasn’t lost his quality, he’s playing very little”.
Bellerin, who joined Arsenal from Barcelona as a teenager, missed last weekend’s north London derby due to a groin injury, as Debuchy replaced the youngster at right-back.
The Gunners next face West Bromwich Albion in a fortnight’s time.
