3 persons shot dead at Pro-Biafra protest
Pro-Biafra protesters have been on the streets for the past few days, demanding for the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In the early hours of this morning, November 10, pro-Biafra protesters under the auspices of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in their thousands started a massive protest in Rivers state.
Although the protesters appeared resolute to continue their march, security operatives managed to maintain the barricade, causing many commuters to resort to trekking long distances as a result of the gridlock caused by the face-off.
Governor Wike of Rivers state had slammed the protesters who disrupted social and economic activities in Port Harcourt, warning against such actions again by any person or groups in the state.
The governor said while individuals and groups are free to exercise their freedom of expression, they must do so peacefully and strictly within the bounds of the Constitution.
“In as much as people have the right to peaceful protest, it should not be at the detriment of other members of the public”.
Governor Wike in a state-wide broadcast condemned the actions of the protesters who came from neighbouring states to disrupt the peace in Rivers state.
“Our government was elected on a mandate, and has sworn to an oath, to defend the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the protesters turned their agitation for sovereign State of Biafra on defenceless residents of Port Harcourt as they smashed vehicles windscreen, pull down Nigerian flags and attacked those who refused to chant their solidarity song in support of Republic State of Biafra.
“Any person or group who violates this ban or acts in any manner will be arrested and prosecuted”.
