Donald Trump’s Turn Hosting SNL Was Apparently The Show’s Highest-Rated
“As a businessman, I can fully respect that”, Mr Trump said.
Protesters held signs and chanted Saturday evening as they marched from Trump Tower to NBC’s studio in Rockefeller Plaza. Aside from the rally, the group Deport Racism reportedly offered $5,000 to anyone who is willing to heckle Trump.
Trump, “The Apprentice” host and presidential aspirant, told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly on Friday that he “had to” turn down certain skits for the “SNL” episode because a few of them contained too dirty acts.
As explained in our primer on the subject in advance of Trump’s appearance, if a broadcast station gives one candidate airtime in anything other than a newscast or news interview program, the other candidates shall be afforded equal opportunity.
The last time the ratings were that high was back on January 7, 2012.
During Donald Trump’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue, Larry David stood up and shouted “You’re a racist”.
DeportRacism.com made the offer to protest Trump’s comments in August that many Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists.
The show, which came under fire from Latino groups for inviting the blunt Republican presidential frontrunner to host, garnered a 6.6 rating in the 56 United States markets measured by Nielsen Media Research, NBC said in a statement. So when he got the call from the network to do an SNL show, Trump agreed.
However, although there’s a call to drop Trump’s guesting in SNL, the protests had no impact on the ratings. In fact, Trump’s overnight rating was 47 per cent higher than the Clinton episode.
While many have expressed their opinion on how much of a letdown the episode was, one thing is for sure: Trump seems happy about being the cause of SNL’s ratings spiking up whether for good or bad reason. The scripted bit played off of a claim by Los Angeles-based group Deport Racism to pay $5,000 to anyone “clearly heard saying “Deport Racism” or “Trump is a Racist” on Saturday’s broadcast.
