Apple Music is now available on Android

If you are interested in Apple Music and have Android 4.3 or later, you can download the Android version now on the Play store and start your trial.
That’s in the short term, at least. If you choose for the family plan, you may need to register or sign up through the OS X or an iOS device, which dictates the real home of Apple Music. Apple Music joins Moving to iOS, a free migration assistant for Android users moving to iPhones.
The Apple Music service which launched for Apple users at the end of June, is now available for Android users, though the app description in Google Play lists it as a “Beta” – but it seems pretty polished.
In reality, the app is the third from Apple for Android but the first was an app to help users migrate to iOS and the second was a controller for their Beats hardware. “It’ll definitely feel very much like an Android app”.
“With Apple, it has always been a question of whether it is in the digital music business, or whether it is using music to sell devices”, said Chris Cooke, business editor for industry magazine Complete Music Update.
While Cue’s words are well-meaning, Apple Music is realistically another way for Apple to extend its reach and get people that are entrenched in other ecosystems to use Apple’s services. Unlike on iOS, which lets users switch tabs from bottom, the Android app has the hamburger icon on top left corner, keeping in line with Android’s Material Design guidelines. Of course, this is a beta software, which could precisely be the reason why Apple allows users to try the new feature before 2016.
Apple Music offers one of the largest music catalogs now available and a subscription for an individual is $9.99/month with family subscriptions (up to 6) is $14.99/month.
Late in the night before Diwali, fans of Apple Music will have found a new gift on their Android phones.
“If you’ve got another device with Apple Music and you’ve got your whole music library in the cloud you can access it from Android”, Apple’s Eddy Cue told TechCrunch.
