‘America’s Parade’ honors veterans, active military in NYC
A Veterans Day that is accompanied by a potentially hard-hitting winter storm serves as just another reminder of the types of sacrifices our military service members make in their duty to our country. President Dwight Eisenhower issued the first Veterans Day proclamation that same year. It is never too late for us to undo the disservice done to many veterans who returned home and were disdained or ignored 40 years ago.
Webster said he and other veterans will also participate in wreath-laying ceremonies on Veterans Day, at the World War II, Vietnam and Korean War memorial sites at the National Mall. That’s about the only thing we got out of Vietnam. “They are people who offered life’s most vital years in service to country and sometimes sacrifice their health and welfare for us”.
“We are so proud that you came out, so proud that you’re here and that you honor us like this”, Keeter said. In schools, parks, Legion halls, government buildings and elsewhere throughout McHenry County, the nation and USA military installations around the world, speeches will be made and solemn prayers offered.
“So numerous World War II veterans, for example, are passing away”, Rob Lechner from Veteran’s Memorial Garden Advisory Committee, said. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the change occurred after Americans had been fighting aggression in Korea.
What do veterans mean to their fellow citizens? However, there are many people out there today…not just in America, but in countries around the world…that are still here, and today is a day that is set aside for them.
The day began with a fitting tribute to the men and women who served our nation and are no longer with us.
“It’s really enlightening or enthuses me that the community is now behind the veterans”, Miller said.
Salinans gathered on a bright, blustery, Wednesday morning at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month to honor all veterans. “This was my way to say thank you”.
